What Is OEE and Why It Matters for Indian SMEs

Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) combines three factors — Availability, Performance and Quality — into one number that tells you how well your equipment is really running.

The three components

  • Availability: the share of planned time the machine is actually producing, after breakdowns and changeovers.
  • Performance: how close you run to the ideal cycle time.
  • Quality: the share of good parts out of total parts produced.

A world-class OEE is around 85%. Many Indian SMEs start in the 40–60% range — which means there is enormous, low-cost capacity hiding in plain sight.

You can't improve what you don't measure. Start with one critical machine and track OEE daily for two weeks.

At Cobex we help teams set up simple, reliable OEE tracking and then attack the biggest losses first — usually changeover time and minor stoppages.
