Line Balancing: Doing More With the Same Team

When one workstation is overloaded and the next is waiting, your whole line runs at the speed of its slowest step. Line balancing redistributes tasks so every station carries a similar load close to the takt time.

How it works

  1. Measure the actual time of every task on the line.
  2. Calculate takt time from customer demand.
  3. Reassign tasks across stations so each is below takt, removing the bottleneck.

The result is higher output, less operator idle time and a smoother flow — frequently with the same number of people. This is one of the fastest, lowest-cost wins in Industrial Engineering.
